San Marcos Jury Sentences Drunk Driver to 15 Years for Fatal Crash

Royce Robison

SAN MARCOS, TX – On November 20, 2025, a Hays County jury sentenced 26-year-old Royce Robison to 15 years in prison for intoxication manslaughter and 10 years for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, with the sentences running concurrently. The sentencing followed the jury’s conviction the previous day on both felony counts.

The case stemmed from a December 2, 2022 crash in which Robison, driving east on Clovis Barker Road at 63 mph in a 45-mph zone, ran a stop sign and “T-boned” a vehicle entering a residence. The collision killed 58-year-old Crisanta Cazares and seriously injured her 8-month-old granddaughter, resulting in the aggravated assault charge. Her son was also in the vehicle at the time.

Evidence at trial showed Robison attempted to shift blame to a passenger, despite video showing him exiting the driver’s side immediately after the crash. Robison showed no remorse during the trial.

The punishment phase included testimony about Robison’s prior public intoxication arrest and the lasting impact on Cazares’ family. The trial was prosecuted by Assistant Criminal District Attorneys Cassidy Story and Jessica Rabena, with support from investigators and staff, following an investigation by the San Marcos Police Department.

“We thank the jury for honoring Crisanta’s life and hope this sentence underscores the dangers of driving intoxicated,” said ADA Cassidy Story.
