Convicted Sex Offender Sentenced to 35 Years for Failure to Register in Bexar County

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - 50-year-old Sean Harper of San Antonio was sentenced to 35 years in prison this week by Judge Michael Mery of the 144th District Court for violating his sex offender registration requirements.

Harper was already a registered sex offender due to a prior conviction in 2005 for Sexual Assault of a Child involving a 14-year-old girl, along with convictions for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Possession of a Prohibited Firearm. For the 2005 Sexual Assault, he spent 10 years in prison and was required to register annualy for his lifetime.

Details of Recent Offense

The current violation stemmed from a serious incident in November 2023. Harper broke into a teenage girl's bedroom, sexually assaulted her, and then fled through a window. Local authorities identified him several months later after the victim recognized him in a photo lineup.

Bexar County District Attorney Joe Gonzales commended the victim's bravery, stating, “It is because of her courage that we can provide her with a measure of closure and ensure our community is safer as a result.”

The prosecution team was led by Assistant Criminal District Attorneys Maria Mancha and Zulema Patino of the Family Violence Division.
