Jose Israel Barrera Jr., 36, of San Antonio, has been sentenced to four years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and ordered to pay $32,577.04 in restitution for stealing Corvettes from Boerne dealerships. Barrera accepted a plea agreement on two counts of Theft of a Motor Vehicle and Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon. Restitution includes $10,077.04 to Mark Motors and $22,500 to Jaguar of Boerne.
The case originated in the early hours of September 27, 2024, when Boerne Police responded to Mark Motors following reports of suspicious activity. A video monitoring company reported a subject pushing a vehicle across a nearby field. Officers soon located a black 2020 Ford F-350 towing a car hauler trailer on Scenic Loop Road, driven by Barrera.
Upon inspection, officers discovered a gray 2009 Chevrolet Corvette inside the trailer, valued at $89,000, with a shattered driver’s side window. The trailer was reported stolen from Waco, and its VIN had been obscured. Barrera resisted arrest and fled but was later apprehended. A search of his truck revealed a Springfield Hellcat handgun, a paintball gun with pink paintballs, bolt cutters, and a box of black rubber gloves.
During questioning, Barrera admitted to a prior theft of a 2011 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 from Jaguar of Boerne, valued at $91,900. He explained that he had used pink paintballs to disable security cameras and an ATV to move the Corvette onto the trailer.
Deputies and detectives from Boerne and Kendall County played key roles in apprehending Barrera and recovering the stolen vehicles.
