Three Defendants Sentenced in Major Drug and Firearm Cases in Comal County


NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas — The Comal County Criminal District Attorney’s Office announced three significant prison sentences handed down last week in cases involving methamphetamine trafficking, firearms violations, and repeat felony offenders.

April Perez, 45, of New Braunfels
Perez pled guilty to Possession with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance PG 1 > 400 Grams (Methamphetamine) and was sentenced to 48 years in prison by Judge Stephanie Bascon of the 466th District Court. Due to prior drug convictions, Perez faced a minimum of 15 years.

On September 5, 2022, New Braunfels Police officers attempted a traffic stop on Perez near I-35 South and Rueckle Road. She continued driving for over two miles before stopping. During the stop, Perez admitted to having two kilograms of methamphetamine in her purse, which was located on the front passenger seat along with $1,000 in cash. The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Lauren Cole.

Dan Nelson, 51, of Gretna, Louisiana
Nelson pled guilty to Possession of a Controlled Substance PG 1 < 1 Gram and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and received a 20-year sentence. He also pled guilty to two counts of Bail Jumping – Failure to Appear and was sentenced to 30 years. The sentences will run concurrently. His charges were enhanced based on an extensive criminal history in Louisiana. The case was prosecuted by Chief Felony Prosecutor Sammy McCrary.

Daniela Martinez Campos, 39, of New Braunfels
Campos pled guilty to multiple methamphetamine-related charges: Possession with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance PG 1 > 200 Grams < 400 Grams and Possession of a Controlled Substance PG 1 > 4 Grams < 200 Grams. She was sentenced to 15 years in prison. Campos also pled guilty to Possession of a Controlled Substance PG 1 < 1 Gram and received the maximum sentence of two years in the State Jail Division. Her sentence was enhanced due to prior convictions. The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Lauren Cole.

All three cases were investigated by the New Braunfels Police Department and prosecuted on behalf of the State of Texas.
