SAN ANTONIO—A San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) SWAT officer has turned himself in to authorities after being charged with an off-duty assault.
According to a news release from the SAPD, Cody Wayne Haegelin, who is assigned to the department's SWAT Detail, has been charged with assault by choking or strangulation involving a family member. Haegelin lives in Mico, Texas, which is in Medina County, where he surrendered to the Medina County Sheriff's Office.
Haegelin has been previously suspended by the department. In December 2020, he was handed a 10-day suspension for profane comments he made on Facebook. Using the name "Busta Wayne," he wrote posts that referred to an unspecified "ignorant movement" and defended President Donald Trump.
The SAPD did not provide further details on the assault charge.
