Buda TX – On the morning of September 4, 2025, a Hays High School student was detained after staff were alerted to a possible firearm on campus. A student reported overhearing a peer mention having a gun, prompting immediate action by Hays CISD staff and Hays County School Resource Officers (SROs).
During the investigation, officers discovered a 15-year-old male juvenile in possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number. The student was taken into custody and transported to the Hays County Juvenile Detention Center. He faces multiple charges, including:
Felony 2 – Unlawful Carrying Weapon in Prohibited Places (Weapon-Free Zone)
Felony 3 – Threat Exhibition/Use of Firearm at School or Bus with Possession/Access
Misdemeanor A – Unlawful Carrying Weapon
Misdemeanor A – Tampering with Identification Numbers
No injuries were reported, and the investigation remains ongoing. Authorities have not released the student’s identity due to his age.
Sheriff Gary Cutler and Sheriff Hipolito commended the students and staff who came forward with information, as well as the SROs for their swift actions to ensure school safety.
