Authorities report that 20-year-old Caesar Tijerina, a suspect wanted in the death of San Antonio ISD student Simon Cuevas III, is hospitalized on life support after apparently shooting himself at a home in Laredo early Friday morning.
Laredo Police responded to an attempted suicide call at 4 a.m. on August 22, 2025, and found Tijerina with a gunshot wound to the head. He was transported to a Laredo hospital and later airlifted to San Antonio. Tijerina was wanted for capital murder in connection with the April 16 shooting death of 14-year-old Cuevas.
On the day of the murder, SAPD and San Antonio ISD officers discovered Cuevas with a gunshot wound to his abdomen near Brewer Academy, where he attended an alternative program. Cuevas was transported to a hospital, where he later died.
Investigators previously arrested 18-year-old Fernando Flores for his involvement in the attack and charged him with capital murder. Police reports indicate that several individuals assaulted Cuevas before one pulled a gun and shot him. Surveillance footage showed five suspects following Cuevas as he left school. Detectives say the group coordinated the attack, which led to his death.
A juvenile suspect remains at large, and authorities are asking anyone with information to contact SAPD’s Homicide Office at 210-207-7635.
At the latest report, Tijerina remains hospitalized on life support.
