ATASCOSA COUNTY, TX – Casey Jones Arguijo, 44, has been sentenced to eight years in prison for Assault on a Pregnant Person, a third-degree felony. The sentence was handed down by Judge Jennifer Dillingham on July 23, 2025, following his conviction by an Atascosa County jury on May 28, 2025.
The case stemmed from the 2021 assault of his then-pregnant girlfriend. During the trial, jurors heard compelling testimony from the victim, who detailed the physical and emotional abuse she endured. She recounted how Arguijo allegedly held her down, twisted her arm, and threw a water bottle at her. She also testified that he physically harmed her pet, grabbing the cat by the neck, choking it, and throwing it against a wall. The victim further described a history of prior abuse, including incidents that left her with visible injuries like a black eye and busted lip.
At the sentencing hearing, another former partner of Arguijo, with whom he shares children, testified about similar patterns of abuse and controlling behavior she experienced during their relationship. Her current partner also provided testimony regarding Arguijo's troubling conduct. While Arguijo denied the allegations when he took the stand in his own defense, audio recordings presented in court contradicted his claims, capturing instances of verbal abuse directed at both witnesses. He claimed he had changed since those recordings were made.
The District Attorney’s Office expressed gratitude to the survivors who traveled from out of state to testify, to the jury for their attention, and to Officer Matthew DeLeon (formerly of the Pleasanton Police Department) for his thorough investigation. Special thanks were also extended to Amanda Villarreal of Safer Path Family Violence Shelter for expert testimony on domestic violence dynamics, and to Andrew Flores of the Adult Probation Office for his detailed presentence investigation report. Assistant District Attorneys Erika Price and Audrey Vasquez Martinez were commended for their work on the case.
