SAN MARCOS, Texas – On Saturday, July 19, 2025, at approximately 1:30 a.m., San Marcos Police responded to a report of a stabbing near a downtown bar. Upon arrival, officers discovered that the incident involved gunfire rather than a stabbing.
Two men had been shot in the head with a handgun. One of the victims, 24-year-old Anthony Barrera, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The second victim, 20-year-old Alek Pacheco, was transported to Christus Santa Rosa Hospital, where he was pronounced dead around 2:15 a.m.
A third individual was also injured, having been grazed by a bullet in the foot. That victim received treatment at a hospital and was later released.
Police arrested 19-year-old Jermiah Jayden Tobias on two counts of Capital Murder and one count of Aggravated Assault. His bond has been set at $1,650,000.
Authorities are now searching for a second suspect, identified as 19-year-old Avery Saul Bowman, Jr., who is wanted for Capital Murder by Terroristic-Capital Felony. Bowman is described as a Hispanic male, approximately 6 feet tall and weighing 210 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He has multiple identifiable tattoos, including a dollar sign on his right ring finger, three dots on his right wrist, ‘512’ between his right thumb and index finger, and a cross on his face. His last known address was in the San Marcos area of Hays County.
San Marcos Police are also seeking an unidentified witness who may have recorded the shooting.

Authorities advise the public to use caution, as Bowman has a history of possessing firearms.
