Apolinar Rivera Jr. has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for aggravated robbery following a ruling by Judge Joel Perez in the 437th District Court.
Rivera, who has a previous conviction for aggravated robbery, received an enhanced sentence due to his extensive criminal history. The crime typically carries a punishment range of 5 to 99 years.
The charges stem from a January 2022 incident in which Rivera and three other individuals attempted to rob a woman at gunpoint while she was sitting in her vehicle. During the attack, Rivera fired multiple shots into the car, striking the victim in both the thigh and torso. She sustained serious injuries.
Rivera is the first of the four suspects involved in the robbery to be sentenced. The remaining defendants are awaiting sentencing.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant Criminal District Attorneys Neal Cordero, Nick Mahrou, and Erika DiNunzio, with assistance from Victim Advocate Rachel Garcia and Investigator Anthony Reed.
Bexar County District Attorney Joe Gonzales stated, “This sentencing is just another example of our diligent efforts in protecting our citizens from those who choose a path of violence. We must ensure repeat offenders are held accountable and will continue to seek justice on behalf of all victims.”
