Sergeant Michael McGuire, a 22-year veteran of the Schertz Police Department, was arrested in the early morning hours of Thursday, June 26, 2025, on suspicion of Driving While Intoxicated (DWI). The arrest occurred at approximately 4:10 a.m. at the Sycamore Creek Apartments, located at 1000 Elbel Rd, while McGuire was off duty.
He was transported and booked into the Guadalupe County Jail shortly after his arrest. Sergeant McGuire, currently assigned to the Patrol Division, has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of concurrent criminal and administrative investigations.
Schertz Chief of Police Jim Lowery expressed his disappointment regarding the incident. "I am disheartened to learn of the arrest of Sergeant McGuire because it represents a deviation from the commitment all officers make when we take our oath and pin on the badge," said Chief Lowery. "We will learn from this, grow as an agency as Schertz PD remains committed to providing professional police services with honor, integrity, accountability and transparency. Being a leader in the community doesn’t stop when the uniform comes off. Our officers know they are expected to obey the law as well as adhere to our strict code of conduct. Driving while intoxicated is a serious offense and we will cooperate fully with the Guadalupe County Attorney’s Office throughout this investigation."
Sergeant McGuire is presumed innocent until proven guilty and is entitled to the same legal rights as any citizen. This is an ongoing investigation, and no further details are available at this time.
