San Antonio Man Sentenced to Over 12 Years for Firearms Trafficking

A San Antonio man was sentenced in federal court to 151 months in prison for trafficking firearms.

Joel Alejandro Martinez, 26, also known as Bo Jackson, was identified by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) as a frequent seller of stolen firearms in online chat groups. On January 10, 2024, Martinez posted two pistols for sale and arranged a meeting in San Antonio. Martinez, driven by his mother and co-defendant Margarita Hernandez Martinez, sold a .308 caliber rifle for $1,100 during the transaction.

Martinez later communicated with an undercover ATF agent, offering to supply AR-style rifles and pistols, including firearms he purchased in bulk that were stolen or crime-involved. Between March 5 and April 11, 2024, Martinez conducted at least three additional firearms sales with the undercover agent, sometimes knowingly dealing in stolen guns.

His mother, Hernandez Martinez, was sentenced to 40 months in prison on April 25 for aiding and abetting.

Federal District Court Judge Jason K. Pulliam presided over the case. The ATF led the investigation, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Zack Parsons prosecuted. U.S. Attorney Justin R. Simmons for the Western District of Texas made the announcement.
