Cody Morrow has been sentenced to 12 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for possession of a controlled substance following a recent bench trial in the 226th District Court. Judge Benjamin Robertson handed down the sentence.
The conviction stems from an incident in May 2022 when local law enforcement discovered Morrow unresponsive in his vehicle. Emergency medical personnel responded swiftly, administering three doses of Narcan to revive him. A subsequent investigation of his vehicle uncovered over 200 fentanyl pills, counterfeit money, and measuring scales.
Before his trial, Morrow chose a bench trial, allowing a judge to decide the verdict and sentencing rather than a jury.
In addition to his recent drug conviction, Morrow has an extensive criminal record, including over 60 criminal charges across seven different states. His past offenses include aggravated assault, criminal trespass, online solicitation of a minor, manufacture and delivery of controlled substances, and theft.
"A habitual offender with a long criminal history is no longer free to harm others, and we are grateful to our team and law enforcement partners for their persistence and commitment in bringing him to justice," said Bexar County District Attorney Joe Gonzales.
Assistant Criminal District Attorneys Brandon Prater and Keely Taylor led the prosecution, supported by Victim Advocate Brandy Jimenez and Investigator Jorge Felan.
