Tye Britton Rexrode, 39, a former educator and coach at Comfort High School, has been sentenced to four years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) followed by 10 years of probation. The sentences will be served consecutively. This outcome stems from one charge of improper relationship between an educator and a student and a second charge related to further illicit conversations with multiple underage female students.
The investigation began on February 1, 2024, when Comfort High School Administration received an anonymous report alleging Rexrode was engaged in a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student. The Comfort High School Resource Officer, a Kendall County Deputy, immediately launched an investigation.
Kendall County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Investigator Quade uncovered that a 17-year-old student had been in an ongoing sexual relationship with Rexrode for months, which included multiple sexual encounters at hotels in Kerr County. Due to the age of consent in Texas being 17, Rexrode could only be charged with improper teacher/student relationship for this specific interaction.
The investigation further revealed that Rexrode initiated inappropriate contact with multiple other minors enrolled at the school. He used social media platforms to communicate with these students, sending them sexually explicit messages and making improper advances. His communications included discussions about age of consent laws and unsolicited offers to share explicit photographs of himself, demonstrating a pattern of predatory behavior.
As part of his plea agreement, a no-contact order has been issued with all female students with whom he was found to have been communicating. The agreement further prohibits Rexrode from being around teenage girls or in places where they congregate, and from coaching any girls' teams.
The Tarrant County District Attorney's Office stated that this sentencing, resulting from a plea agreement, serves to protect the young individuals who were victimized by sparing them the potentially re-traumatizing experience of testifying in open court, allowing them to continue their healing process. The case was prosecuted by Assistant Criminal District Attorney Andrew Fields. The relevant penal code for improper relationship between an educator and a student, involving a person in a position of authority and a victim under 18 years of age, is Texas Penal Code Ann. § 21.12.
