A Duval County jury has convicted Daniel Shane Locklin of eight felony charges related to the repeated physical abuse of a minor child, sentencing him to a total of 48 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
Locklin was found guilty of four counts of Injury to a Child - Serious Bodily Injury, which are first-degree felonies, and four counts of Injury to a Child - Bodily Injury, classified as third-degree felonies. The jury assessed 12 years in prison for each first-degree count and 5 years for each third-degree count. At the request of the State, the court ordered the sentences for the first-degree offenses to run consecutively, resulting in the lengthy prison term.
The case presented disturbing and extensively documented evidence of ongoing abuse inflicted upon the child. This included multiple fractured ribs, severe bruising, lacerations across the body, disfigurement, and dental trauma. Following the investigation, the child was removed from the home and received necessary care from child protection services and medical professionals.
The case was prosecuted by First Assistant District Attorney Abel Villarreal, Jr., serving as lead counsel, with Assistant District Attorney Roxanna Ramirez as second chair.
The 229th Judicial District Attorney's Office extended its gratitude to the Freer Police Department, Child Protective Services, the medical team at Driscoll Children's Hospital, and all investigators and forensic professionals whose work was crucial in securing the conviction and protecting vulnerable children.
