A reported hostage situation in San Marcos ended without injury late Monday night after a teenage male armed with a firearm refused to exit a residence, prompting the response of the Hays County SWAT team and Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT).
At approximately 10:57 p.m. on June 2, the San Marcos Police Department requested SWAT assistance at a residence near Uhland and Mill Streets following a family violence assault. Authorities say the suspect had armed himself with a shotgun. The initial victim was able to evacuate, leaving behind the suspect and a 17-year-old male inside the home.
San Marcos Police reported that the teen was also armed and refused to exit the residence. Patrol officers quickly set up containment while CNT negotiators established communication with the suspect.
CNT maintained ongoing communication throughout the incident, ultimately leading to the safe and voluntary surrender of the suspect and the uninjured 17-year-old. No property damage occurred.
The suspect was taken into custody at approximately 12:35 a.m. Tuesday. The identities of those involved have not been released.
