Bandera ISD has officially announced the hiring of Bruce Stafford as the new Head Coach for the Bandera High School Boys Basketball Program. He takes over a program that ended the 2024-2025 season with an overall record of 20-13, but 2-8 in district play, finishing in last place and missing the playoffs.
Coach Stafford brings 12 years of teaching and coaching experience, primarily at Fredericksburg ISD. A retired military officer with a strong leadership background, Stafford has served both his country and the student-athletes he mentors.
While at Fredericksburg, Stafford contributed to six basketball playoff appearances, two district championships, and two area-round advancements. His coaching experience also includes helping lead the football team to the fourth round of the state playoffs in 2021 and guiding several golf teams to state competitions.
Beyond athletics, Stafford’s military career includes leading global security and operations teams. He served as Officer of the Deck aboard U.S. Navy aircraft carriers and directed security details for high-ranking officials, including the President of the United States.
"Coach Stafford is truly a leader of men," said BISD Athletic Director Joel Fontenot-Amedee. "He is a winner who is also a kid magnet. He builds relationships with his student athletes at a very high level. He's worked for a few legends in the coaching world, which have also prepared him to lead our basketball program! He will be a great addition to our staff and we are excited to have him on our team."
Coach Stafford and his wife, Sheryl, have been married for 35 years. They have five children and four grandchildren.
Bandera ISD welcomes Coach Stafford as he begins his new leadership role with Bulldog Basketball.
