A driver was killed Saturday night after leading a Kerrville Police officer on a brief pursuit that ended in a violent crash into a residential property.
At approximately 10:35 p.m. on May 24, a Kerrville Police Department officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a 2012 Chevrolet pickup for an equipment violation in the 600 block of Harper Road. The pickup, however, immediately accelerated and fled northbound on Harper Road.
The driver and sole occupant of the truck soon lost control of the vehicle, leaving the roadway. The truck first struck a parked vehicle in a driveway in the 1100 block of Lake Drive before hitting a telephone pole. The impact caused the truck to overturn, ultimately coming to rest against a residence in the 1100 block of Lake Drive.
The pursuing officer immediately requested Kerrville Fire Department Emergency Medical Services and attempted to render aid. However, the driver of the truck was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The identity of the deceased driver is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
