Social Media Tips Lead to Arrest in Bexar County Child Sexual Assault Case

Jaye Alexander Wells

The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office has arrested Jaye Alexander Wells, 34, on a charge of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child following an investigation that began with concerning social media messages.

The investigation was initiated after a witness discovered troubling messages on Snapchat between the child and Wells. The child, who accessed Snapchat through the witness’s phone, did not have her own social media account. The content of these messages prompted the witness to alert the victim’s parents, who then reported the matter to law enforcement.

According to investigators, Wells, who had been known to the family for years, allegedly used this familiarity to gain access to the child and conceal his actions. He also reportedly attempted to use intimidation and emotional manipulation to prevent the child from disclosing the abuse. The victim later bravely disclosed that the assaults began when she was just 13 years old.

After gathering sufficient evidence, the BCSO’s Child Safe Unit applied for and executed an arrest warrant. Wells was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Bexar County Jail earlier this week.

The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office is urging parents and guardians to be vigilant about their children's online safety:

  • Regularly monitor and discuss online activity with your children.
  • Encourage open communication so children feel safe reporting anything uncomfortable or inappropriate.
  • Educate your children on boundaries and the importance of speaking up.

The BCSO emphasizes that while online platforms can be tools for connection, they also present risks, particularly when used by adults seeking to exploit minors. Staying actively involved is one of the most effective ways to prevent harm.
