On May 11, 2025, at approximately 6:21 a.m., Hays County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) patrol units responded to a report of deadly conduct involving a male allegedly holding a female hostage at gunpoint. Upon arrival, deputies swiftly ensured the safe evacuation of all individuals from the residence, with the exception of the original caller.

Initially, due to the nature of the call, the SWAT team was directed to stage nearby for potential intervention. However, further investigation and communication revealed that the situation was likely a mental health crisis rather than a criminal act. The original caller was identified as a combat veteran experiencing significant distress, exhibiting pronounced paranoia as noted by the Crisis Negotiations Team (CNT) who established dialogue with him.

Patrol units were able to confirm that no criminal offense had occurred. Based on this assessment, SWAT was advised to stand down. The CNT continued their communication with the veteran, successfully persuading him to exit the residence voluntarily. Upon exiting, he was met by patrol units and EMS personnel and was subsequently transported to a hospital for a mental health evaluation.

The Hays County Sheriff's Office commended the professionalism and coordination demonstrated by all responding units in handling this sensitive situation. Their calm and measured response led to a peaceful resolution without any injuries.
