Jeremy Raymond Wasson

Three members of a family from Kerrville were killed and a fourth remains in critical condition following a head-on collision involving a suspected drunk driver on Saturday, May 3.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), troopers responded to the crash around 4:58 p.m. on Highway 27 at Bluff Creek Road North, just east of Center Point.

A gray Toyota SUV, driven by 25-year-old Jeremy Raymond Wasson of San Antonio, was traveling eastbound on Highway 27. At the same time, three motorcycles operated by members of the Cortez family were traveling westbound.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Wasson's vehicle crossed into the westbound lanes and struck all three motorcycles head-on.

The motorcyclists—Courtney Cortez, 25; Cody Cortez, 35; and Daniel Cortez Jr., 57—were pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger riding on one of the motorcycles was airlifted to a medical facility in San Antonio and remains in critical condition.

Wasson was transported to Peterson Regional Medical Center for treatment, released, and later booked into the Kerr County Jail. He faces three counts of intoxication manslaughter and one count of intoxication assault. His bond was set at $350,000.
