San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) officers responded to a disturbing incident on July 11th when a victim discovered a recording device hidden behind a soap dispenser in the women's bathroom of a business located at the 4200 block of Gatecrest Drive. The camera had been secretly transmitting videos and images to the suspect's cell phone.
The victim, whose identity remains undisclosed, immediately contacted the police upon making the unsettling discovery. It was later revealed that the perpetrator responsible for the invasive recording was an employee of the business. As a result, both a young woman and a child fell victim to this privacy violation, unaware that their actions were being unlawfully monitored.
SAPD detectives assigned to the Human Exploitation Unit swiftly initiated an investigation into the matter. Utilizing their expertise and resources, they successfully apprehended the suspect for the crime of invasive visual recording, which constitutes a state jail felony. The suspect's identity has been withheld pending further legal proceedings.
This disturbing incident serves as a stark reminder for individuals to remain vigilant when utilizing public restrooms. The SAPD advises all individuals to be aware of any devices that may be concealed within ordinary fixtures such as soap dispensers, light fixtures, or any other objects that seem out of place. Should anyone come across a recording device, they are encouraged to promptly contact the management of the location or notify the police to report their findings.
The SAPD takes these matters seriously and remains committed to ensuring the safety and privacy of its community members. They urge everyone to report any suspicious activity or potential privacy violations, as it is crucial in identifying and bringing to justice those who engage in such illegal activities.
