Former Hays County Teacher Receives 60-Year Sentence in Child Pornography Case

Kevin McLean

Kevin McLean, 33, was sentenced to a total of 60 years in prison on April 29, announced Hays County Criminal District Attorney Kelly Higgins. Hays County District Judge Sherri K. Tibbe delivered the sentence after McLean pleaded guilty to six counts of possession of child pornography. He received a 10-year sentence for each count, ordered to run consecutively.

McLean, a former middle school teacher in Hays County, was arrested in 2022 following a police investigation. The investigation began after McLean’s wife reported finding inappropriate communications with several female middle school students on his phone.

Law enforcement subsequently seized McLean’s phone and interviewed the students. The investigation revealed that McLean had been grooming the students by sending them nude photos of himself and attempting to solicit similar images from them. Authorities also determined that McLean had provided some students with alcohol and illegal narcotics, including THC vape pens and prescription drugs.

The investigation did not uncover any child pornography involving students from the middle school, and there were no reports of sexual contact with a student.

The Hays County Sheriff’s Department and the Austin Police Department conducted the investigation. Assistant District Attorney Courtney Hansen prosecuted the case.
