Law enforcement agencies have initiated a widespread search for Caleb Leutzinger, a person of interest believed to be connected to the brutal battery of 74-year-old Mike Barr and the subsequent theft of his truck. The incident occurred on June 24 at Barr's residence in Bandera, leaving the elderly man hospitalized and his vehicle missing.
Bandera County Chief Deputy Matt King revealed that the stolen truck was recovered by sheriff's deputies, with indications that it had been operated by Leutzinger, a local resident. A pursuit ensued, but the vehicle was ultimately lost in Lake Medina Shores.
"The unique topography of the lake allows for easy crossing to Lakehills via the dry bed," explained Chief Deputy King, highlighting the potential escape route chosen by the suspect.
Following leads pointing towards Leutzinger's possible presence in Holiday Villages, specifically in a residence off Old Castroville Road, law enforcement officers obtained an arrest warrant. While searching the premises, investigators gathered substantial evidence related to an additional robbery; however, they did not locate the primary suspect.
Tragically, on July 8, after being discharged from the hospital, Mike Barr passed away. The results of an autopsy conducted by Central Texas Autopsy in Lockhart revealed that his cause of death was a heart attack.
"Authorities were unable to establish a direct link between his demise and the injuries sustained during the assault," stated Chief Deputy King.
At present, authorities are intensifying their efforts to locate Caleb Leutzinger, who remains at large. Chief Deputy King implored members of the public to come forward with any information that could assist in the investigation, urging them to contact the Bandera County Sheriff's Office.
