Wrong-Way Driver Sentenced to 18 Years Total After Plea Deal in Kendall County

Epiphany Richmond

Epiphany Richmond, 37, has been sentenced to a total of 18 years in prison after pleading guilty to charges stemming from a wrong-way driving incident on IH-10 in June 2024.

Richmond accepted a plea deal of 8 years in prison, which will be served consecutively (stacked) with a 10-year sentence from Bexar County for a prior Intoxication Manslaughter conviction.

On June 8, 2024, Richmond was observed driving a silver Chevrolet Malibu the wrong way on IH-10 by a Kendall County Sheriff’s deputy. A 14-mile pursuit ensued, during which Richmond nearly caused multiple head-on collisions. Deputies deployed tire deflation devices and eventually stopped Richmond, who appeared confused and disoriented.

Richmond exhibited signs of intoxication, including a strong odor of alcohol, glassy eyes, and slurred speech. A warrant-obtained blood draw revealed her blood alcohol concentration (BAC) to be 0.169 grams per deciliter, more than twice the legal limit.

Richmond has a prior conviction for Intoxication Manslaughter in Bexar County from a 2014 incident where she drove while intoxicated, resulting in the death of her sister. Her BAC in that case was 0.16 grams per deciliter. She was on probation for that offense at the time of the Kendall County incident.

Bexar County revoked Richmond's probation and sentenced her to 10 years in prison. The Kendall County Criminal District Attorney's Office sought to run the 8-year sentence consecutively due to the severity of her actions and her prior criminal history.

Assistant District Attorney Derly Chapa prosecuted the case, emphasizing the commitment of the Kendall County District Attorney's Office and law enforcement to public safety.
