HALLETTSVILLE, Texas - Two inmates at the Lavaca County Jail are facing additional felony charges as investigators continue probing the introduction of contraband into the county's correctional facility.
The Lavaca County Sheriff's Office announced that a Lavaca County Justice of the Peace issued new arrest warrants for Tyler Lee Miller and Brandon Scott Dearson after reviewing evidence presented by a Sheriff's Office investigator.
Both men have been charged with Prohibited Substance in a Correctional Facility, a third-degree felony, and Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity, a second-degree felony.
According to the Sheriff's Office, Miller and Dearson were already being held in the Lavaca County Jail on unrelated felony charges when the alleged offenses occurred.
The new charges stem from an investigation that began in June 2026 after narcotics were discovered during a routine cell inspection at the jail.
Authorities have not released additional details regarding the type or quantity of contraband recovered or how investigators believe it entered the facility.
The Sheriff's Office said it remains committed to maintaining the safety and security of the jail while keeping residents informed about significant developments in the case.
Officials added that the investigation remains active and that investigators will continue following the evidence wherever it leads.
