San Antonio Man Arrested for Attempted Kidnapping of 10-Year-Old Boy in Schertz

On January 15, 2025, at approximately 6:15 p.m., Schertz Police Department officers responded to the 12500 block of Barr Way following a report of a suspicious person in a white van attempting to lure a 10-year-old boy.

The suspect, described as approximately 6 feet tall and wearing all black clothing with a ski mask, was driving a white van, possibly a Chevrolet, equipped with ladders on top, black rims, tinted windows, and a rusted front grille guard. The child ran from the scene unharmed and informed his parents.

“This call is very alarming and concerning to all of us as members of this community,” said Police Chief Jim Lowery. “We are diligently investigating this case and will increase our patrols in the immediate area. We commend the child for not approaching the vehicle and for seeking help.”

The following day, January 16, 2025, Schertz police located a van matching the description at a nearby construction site. The driver, identified as 33-year-old Ismael Ortega Quiroz of San Antonio, was placed under surveillance. Investigators developed probable cause, obtained an arrest warrant, and arrested Quiroz without incident.

Quiroz was charged with Attempted Kidnapping, a state jail felony, and is being held at the Bexar County Jail awaiting bond.

“I am proud of the work conducted by the men and women of this department,” Chief Lowery said. “Thanks to their tenacity, initiative, and motivation to achieve optimal results, we have this suspect in custody. We also thank our community for practicing See Something, Say Something, and our local, state, and federal partners for their collaboration in this investigation. There is hope that this arrest will bring some peace of mind to our community.”
