On December 19, 2024, officers with the West University Place Police Department (WUPD) responded to multiple reports of package thefts within the city. During the investigation, video surveillance footage was collected from several residences, revealing a suspect vehicle. The Virtual Gate system was utilized, quickly identifying the vehicle involved in the thefts.
On December 22, 2024, officers received a Virtual Gate notification indicating the same suspect vehicle had re-entered the area. Officers located the car and conducted a traffic stop. The driver, identified as Joshay Baldwin Jr., was arrested for multiple traffic violations.
Further collaboration between WUPD’s Criminal Investigations Division and the department led to Baldwin Jr. being positively identified as the suspect involved in the recent package thefts. The Harris County District Attorney’s Office accepted charges for Mail Theft against Baldwin Jr.
