On May 29, 2024, at approximately 6:14 AM, the Cibolo Police and Fire Departments responded to a report of an overturned vehicle in a field next to the Trophy Oaks Apartments at FM78 and Broad Oak Drive. A passerby had observed the vehicle and alerted authorities.
Upon arrival, officers discovered a white 2012 Hyundai Sonata that had been traveling eastbound on FM78. The vehicle veered off the right side of the road near Broad Oak Drive, struck a dirt embankment, and became airborne. The car traveled across Broad Oak Drive, landed in an open field, and rolled over several times before coming to rest on its roof.
First responders found the driver, 66-year-old Jerrard Keil of Fort Worth, Texas, deceased inside the vehicle. He was the sole occupant, and no other persons or vehicles were involved in the accident.
The crash is believed to have occurred overnight when it was too dark for anyone to notice the vehicle off the roadway. It was reported when daylight allowed the passerby to see the car.
Broad Oak Drive was closed for approximately six hours while officers from the Cibolo Police Department and a Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper conducted the investigation. FM 78 eastbound was also reduced to one lane during this time.
