Quick Response Prevents Major Damage in Schertz Apartment Fire

On May 21, 2024, at approximately 11:37 a.m., emergency services responded to a fire at the Sycamore Creek Apartments located at 1000 Elbel Road.

Officer Bill Freeman of the Schertz Police Department was the first responder on the scene. Upon arrival, he observed smoke emanating from an upstairs apartment. Acting swiftly, Officer Freeman ensured the evacuation of all occupants and utilized a fire extinguisher to contain the blaze before it could escalate.

Shortly thereafter, both the Schertz and Cibolo Fire Departments arrived and worked together to fully extinguish the fire. Thanks to their coordinated efforts and Officer Freeman's decisive actions, the fire was contained, preventing further damage to the building.

While the occupants of the affected apartment will be displaced as a result of the fire, no other units were impacted due to the rapid response of the emergency teams.

Authorities expressed gratitude for the collaborative efforts of all involved in swiftly responding to the incident, emphasizing the importance of teamwork in ensuring the safety and protection of the community.
