Selma Police Seek Community Assistance in Unsolved Murder Case

The Selma Police Department is seeking the community's help in solving the murder of Joseph Banales, a senior Reserve Officer Training Corps cadet at the University of the Incarnate Word. Banales was fatally shot around 11:45 pm on April 15th, 2023, in the 15500 Block of IH 35 North.

Despite extensive efforts by the Selma Criminal Investigations Division, along with state and federal agencies, no suspects have been identified over the past year. The police department is reiterating its commitment to bringing the perpetrator to justice and is urging the public to come forward with any information they may have, no matter how small.

The suspect vehicle is described as a dark-colored, possibly blue, sports car with aftermarket loud exhaust and possibly a spoiler. It was seen traveling north on IH 35 at a high rate of speed.

Anyone with information relevant to the investigation is encouraged to contact the Selma Police Department or Crime Stoppers of San Antonio. Crime Stoppers is offering a reward for information leading to the identification and location of the suspect(s) responsible for the murder.
