Hays County Appoints New Fire Marshal

Hays County Commissioners Court welcomed Steve Seddig as the county’s new fire marshal during its meeting on Tuesday, March 26. Seddig brings over 28 years of experience from the city of Wylie Fire Rescue, where he served as fire marshal, division chief, and a Texas peace officer for 22 years. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Emergency Administration from the University of North Texas, an Associate of Applied Science in Law Enforcement Technology from Rio Salado College, and is currently pursuing a Master of Forensic Anthropology at Texas State University.

With certifications as a Texas master fire investigator and an International Association of Arson Investigators Certified Fire Investigator, Seddig is well-equipped for his new role. He also serves as the president of the Collin County Fire & Arson Investigators Association and played a crucial role in establishing one of only two annual fire death investigation courses in Texas.

As the head of the Fire Marshal’s Office, Seddig will oversee code enforcement, plans review, fire inspections, and fire cause determination, in accordance with Texas law. Mike Jones, the Office of Emergency Services (OES) director, expressed enthusiasm about Seddig's appointment, emphasizing his extensive experience and knowledge.

Seddig himself expressed excitement about serving the citizens of Hays County and addressing the challenges posed by rapid growth in the area. He officially assumed his duties as Hays County fire marshal on March 26.
