Texas House Democrats Launch Border Security Task Force Amidst Surge in Illicit Narcotics and Migration

On March 12, 2024, U.S. Congressmen Henry Cuellar, Ph.D. (TX-28) and Tom Suozzi (NY-3) launched the Democrats for Border Security Task Force, consisting of 26 House Democrats. The task force aims to counter the surge of illicit narcotics and address irregular migration at the southern border. Cuellar and Suozzi will serve as Co-Chairs.

Cuellar stated, "Cities across the country are now feeling the consequences of the humanitarian crisis at the border," highlighting the urgency for solutions amid partisan politics. Suozzi emphasized the need for bipartisan compromise to reform the immigration system, stating, "Our approach to the immigration and border crisis is unequivocal."

The Task Force aims to provide a platform for House Democrats to discuss border security measures and collaborate with stakeholders. Meetings with Administration officials, NGOs, and local officials will inform members about the realities of the border crisis.
