Construction Begins on Skatepark Honoring Dripping Springs Teen

Construction of a new skatepark at Founders Memorial Park in Dripping Springs is underway following a groundbreaking ceremony held on Saturday, Feb. 10. The skatepark, named after local teen Dorian Zev Kweller who tragically passed away in a car accident in February 2023, will honor his memory and provide a safe space for the skating community.

Speakers at the ceremony included Dripping Springs Mayor Pro Tem Taline Manassian, Dripping Springs Parks & Community Services Director Andrew Binz, Hays County Commissioner Walt Smith, Dennis Baldwin, and Ben Kweller, Dorian's father.

The plaza-style skatepark, spanning approximately 10,000 square feet, has been in the works since 2014, with the Dripping Springs City Council approving plans in 2017. Dorian Kweller, a junior at Dripping Springs High School, was an active member of the skateboarding community and played a significant role in fundraising for the park. Known for his passion for both skateboarding and music, Dorian often brought his guitar to the skatepark and was a member of the Tiger Band.

Funded by the 2020 POSAC bond, the project is expected to be completed by summer/fall 2024. The skatepark will serve as a lasting tribute to Dorian Kweller and a valuable resource for local skaters.
