Medina County Sheriff's Office responded to a call alerting them to the presence of an individual, identified as 23-year-old Romeo Nance, entering the county on IH35 from Bexar County. Nance was believed to be wanted for multiple homicides in the Chicago area. Deputies collaborated with Texas DPS and the US Marshals, leading to a standoff at Natalia's Chubbys Gas station.
The male suspect sustained self-inflicted gunshot wounds during the standoff, which resulted in his death.
The scene is currently secured, with no threat to the public. Authorities urge the public to be mindful of the area and allow investigators to conduct their work.
Nance was wanted out of Joliet, Illinois. According to the Joliet Police Department, on January 22, 2024, at 12:08 PM, officers responded to the 2200 block of West Acres Road in Joliet, following information from Will County Sheriff’s Office deputies. Deputies, conducting investigative work related to a homicide on January 21, 2024, discovered multiple deceased individuals in two homes.
Evidence of a possible crime scene was found at 2212 West Acres Road, where five individuals appeared to be deceased from gunshot wounds. Another possible crime scene was identified at 2225 West Acres Road, with two individuals also found dead from gunshot wounds. Joliet Police Department officers and detectives were called to the scene.
During the investigation, detectives identified Romeo Nance as a suspect in the West Acres Road homicides and linked him to a fatal shooting investigated by the Will County Sheriff’s Office, along with a non-fatal shooting in Joliet, both occurring on January 21, 2024. Information about Nance and the vehicle he was believed to be driving was disseminated to the public and media outlets.
On Monday at 8:30 PM, the Joliet Police Department was informed of the developments in Natalia, Texas, where the suspect was found dead.
