Michael Cruz, 40, has been apprehended by San Antonio police for an alleged robbery in the parking garage of Methodist Hospital on Saturday morning.
The incident occurred in the 7700 block of Floyd Curl Drive around 11 a.m., as officers responded to reports of a robbery. A couple, returning to their vehicle after visiting a sick family member, informed the police that Cruz had attacked them.
According to the victims, Cruz was found rummaging through their vehicle. When he noticed the couple, he swung a knife at the woman, resulting in a cut to her hand. Subsequently, Cruz shoved the man to the ground as he attempted to defend the woman, according to the police.
After the assault, Cruz fled the scene in a waiting vehicle. Fortunately, the woman was able to capture a photograph of the vehicle's license plate. Robbery detectives, connecting the license plate to prior police contacts, initiated an investigation.
During the police inquiry, it was discovered that Cruz was wearing a GPS monitor, allowing detectives to place him at the scene of the alleged robbery. Two arrest warrants were obtained for Cruz, who was apprehended without incident.
Michael Cruz is currently held in the Bexar County Jail, with bonds totaling up to $200,000.
