San Antonio Police Officer Shot During Traffic Stop; Suspect at Large

A San Antonio Police officer is in critical condition after being shot during a traffic stop in the early hours of Saturday. The incident occurred at approximately 1:30 a.m. on Marbach Road and northwest Loop 410.

According to Police Chief William McManus, two officers pulled over a driver suspected of drunk driving. As one officer approached the car, the passenger opened fire. McManus stated, "The officer on the passenger side was hit and went down." The injured officer was shot twice and quickly transported to the hospital, where he underwent surgery.

SAPD reported that all officers at the scene returned fire as the passenger took control of the suspect's vehicle and fled the scene. Although officials later located the car, there was no sign of the suspects.

The wounded officer, who has been with the department for six years, remains in critical condition. Authorities are actively searching for the individual responsible for the shooting.
