On Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at approximately 1:16 p.m., a deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 18500 block of West US Highway 290 for speeding. The driver, identified as 37-year-old Christopher Stewart Murphey from Austin, TX, was found to have an outstanding warrant from Southlake, Texas for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. Murphey was arrested and subsequently transported to jail, where his bond was set at $50,000.
Later the same day, around 4:31 p.m., deputies received information about a male with outstanding felony warrants at a business in the 1500 block of South US Highway 87. Deputies arrived at the location and managed to make contact with the individual as he attempted to flee through the back door. The suspect, identified as 21-year-old Christopher Bernard Murphey of Fredericksburg, was taken into custody on warrants for Deadly Conduct Discharge of Firearm and Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
During the arrest, authorities discovered prepackaged marijuana and a vape pen containing THC in Murphey's hoodie pocket. In addition to the warrant charges, he now faces additional charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance in Penalty Group 2 (<1 gram) and Possession of Marijuana (<2 oz).
