In Fredericksburg, a 67-year-old woman was arrested and charged with Manufacture or Delivery of a Controlled Substance in Penalty Group 1/1-B >= 4 grams < 200 grams. The arrest followed a traffic stop conducted by a Gillespie County Sheriff's Office deputy on Monday, January 1, 2024, around 12:33 a.m. The deputy pulled over the vehicle on East US Highway 290 near Ranch Road 1 after observing a defective headlamp violation.
Upon contact with the male driver and female passenger, the driver admitted to consuming alcoholic beverages earlier. The deputy, granted consent to search the vehicle for alcohol-related contraband, discovered the female passenger in possession of a Meth smoking pipe. This admission led to a probable cause search, during which the deputy found approximately 19.29 grams of suspected methamphetamine in the woman's purse.
Upon informing her of the impending arrest and her rights, the woman revealed that she had obtained the substance from an unnamed source in Austin, TX, intending to bring it back for an unidentified friend. The substance tested positive for methamphetamine, resulting in the arrest of the female passenger.
The male driver, found to be safe to drive and with no apparent links to the incident, was released without facing criminal charges.
