Violent Family Dispute Ends in Assault and Arrests in Fredericksburg

On Saturday, December 23, 2023, at 12:20 AM, Gillespie County Sheriff deputies responded to a distress call at the United States Postal Service parking lot (1150 North US Highway 87, Fredericksburg, TX). The incident involved an assault on a male individual who had been dropped off at the location.

The victim informed deputies that a verbal dispute erupted among family members at a ranch house on Camphouse Road. Following the altercation, the victim was instructed to leave and was driven to town by a male family member, accompanied by two other males. The verbal argument persisted during the drive, resulting in a physical assault on the victim by the two additional males.

The situation escalated when the male driver produced a firearm, using it to strike the victim multiple times in the face. Subsequently, he pointed the weapon at the victim's lap, issuing threats. Following the assault, the victim was dropped off at the local post office, where he contacted emergency services via 911.

Law enforcement intercepted the vehicle with the three male subjects and apprehended them without incident. All three individuals admitted to participating in the assault. They have been identified as 65-year-old Frank Matthews Baker from Rockport, TX (charged with Aggravated Assault with Deadly Weapon, $50,000 bond set), 29-year-old Hongseok Choi from Cedar Park, TX (charged with Assault Causes Bodily Injury, $3,000 bond set), and 32-year-old Steven I. Avalos from Brooklyn, NY (charged with Assault Causes Bodily Injury, $3,000 bond set).
