Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar held a press conference to announce the arrest of 34-year-old Marquise Anton Moore for aggravated sexual assault of a child.
Salazar said that Moore was caught in the act of sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl before holding the witnesses to his crime hostage in an eastside home.
“This case quite frankly is one of the more infuriating scenarios that I can even imagine. This suspect whom y’all just met Marquise Anton Moore is nothing short of a career criminal,” said Salazar.
Moore was on parole for sexual assault, having been released from prison in September.
The sheriff explained that after been caught in the act, Moore started seizing cell phones from everyone in the house to prevent them from calling 911. Although the assault occurred around 2 am, police were not called until 6:22 am.
“He took everybody’s cell phones and communication devices in the home, and what I consider an act of cowardice, took a bunch of sleeping pills ostensibly in an effort to kill himself or harm himself. However, when he fell asleep as a result of the sleeping pills he took, one of the people in the house was able contact law enforcement and to call us at 6:22 this morning", explained Salazar.
“My hope is to keep this suspect behind bars, hopefully send him off to prison again, and hopefully they’ll keep him there where he belongs,” Salazar said. “My understanding is that the latest stint he did in jail was only about two years – he was sentenced to about four, but I think they let him out two years earlier. Obviously, this little girl is going to be living with the consequences of this guy’s actions probably for the rest of her life.”
