Harlan High School Principal Arrested for DWI

Richard Yzaguirre, the principal of Harlan High School in San Antonio, was arrested for driving while intoxicated (DWI) on Friday, November 24, 2023. The arrest took place in the 100 block of Interstate 35 around 2 a.m. by the San Antonio Police Department.

Authorities apprehended Yzaguirre after observing his vehicle swerving on the freeway multiple times. Upon pulling him over, the arresting officer detected a strong odor of alcohol, bloodshot and glossy eyes, as well as slurred speech. Subsequent field sobriety tests led to Yzaguirre's arrest on the DWI charge.

The Northside Independent School District (NISD) released a statement in response to the incident, confirming Yzaguirre's employment within the district. The statement reads, "I can confirm that Richard Yzaguirre is an employee of the Northside ISD and currently serves as Principal at Harlan HS. The District was made aware of the employee’s arrest. This personnel matter is being addressed by Human Resources and, as such, we are unable to provide any specifics regarding disciplinary action."
