In a significant move to bolster regional economic development, San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg and Monterrey, Mexico Mayor Luis Donaldo Colosio Riojas signed a letter of intent on November 15, 2023. The agreement aims to foster collaboration in building a robust regional economic ecosystem, targeting key sectors and industries.
The mayors have committed to working together to enhance the capabilities of their respective cities in driving regional economic growth. The areas of focus for collaboration include sustainability initiatives, smart cities, workforce development, healthcare and biotechnology, artificial intelligence, big data, cybersecurity, and tourism.
The cooperative efforts aim to strengthen ties between academic institutions, trade associations, research centers, and other private sector stakeholders. The goal is to develop a world-class industrial regional ecosystem that will contribute to the overall prosperity of both cities.
Mayor Ron Nirenberg expressed optimism about the collaboration, stating, “This is another critical step toward strengthening our region’s buying power in the global economy. As South Texas and North Mexico continue to realize their united potential, we look forward to working with our partners in Monterrey to deliver major economic developments and further prosperity for our residents.”
