A San Antonio man was arrested on Wednesday afternoon for allegedly soliciting a minor online, according to the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD). Joe Ramos, 29, had been a family friend for several years before his arrest.
According to police, Ramos exchanged phone numbers and social media information with a victim under the age of 14. Over a period of three weeks, he allegedly sent explicit text messages and images to the minor through these communication channels.
The victim's parents discovered the inappropriate communications while monitoring their daughter's phone and social media activity, police said. After finding the sexually explicit content Ramos had sent, the parents contacted SAPD to report the incidents.
Police opened an investigation into Ramos based on the evidence provided by the parents. "There was enough there to determine that he was trying to meet with the intention of sexual conduct," said SAPD Officer Ricardo Guzman.
Ramos now faces charges related to the online solicitation of a minor under 14 years of age.
