Six middle school students and their bus driver were rushed to the hospital following a collision with an 18-wheeler on Wednesday afternoon. The incident occurred at approximately 3:30 p.m. at the intersection of Loop 1604 and Highway 90, as reported by a spokesperson from the Southwest Independent School District (SWISD).
The Southwest ISD confirmed that the bus, carrying 20 students from Scobee Middle School, was struck by the 18-wheeler. Local authorities later revealed that the trailer of the 18-wheeler had run a red light prior to colliding with the school bus.
Thankfully, SWISD has reported that the six students and the bus driver are in stable condition. The other students who were on the bus at the time of the incident were assessed at the scene and subsequently released into the care of their parents or guardians.
In response to the incident, SWISD has announced that counseling and support services will be made available to the affected students and their families to help them cope during this difficult time.
Southwest ISD issued a statement expressing their concern and gratitude: "Our thoughts are with all the students involved in this incident, and we are grateful for your support and understanding during this challenging time."
