Suspected Carjacking and Fatal Wreck in Kerrville Under Investigation

The Kerrville Police Department is currently investigating a suspected carjacking incident and a subsequent fatal wreck that occurred on Tuesday, October 17, 2023.

The incident began unfolding at approximately 1:48 p.m. when Kerrville Police Telecommunications Operators received a 911 call reporting an attempted carjacking in the parking lot of a business located in the 1200 block of Junction Highway. Only two minutes later, at 1:50 p.m., a second 911 call was placed, indicating that a suspect had stolen a vehicle at gunpoint from a different business in the same vicinity. The stolen vehicle, a white 2022 Honda sedan, was reported in the latter call.

In response, multiple Kerrville Police Department officers rushed to the area, and they soon spotted the stolen vehicle heading north on Sidney Baker, State Highway 16, at a high rate of speed. Attempting to conduct a traffic stop, the officers were met with the stolen vehicle's refusal to comply. This resulted in a collision between the stolen Honda and a 2002 Chevrolet pickup truck in the 1800 block of Sidney Baker North at approximately 1:55 p.m.

Upon the collision, Kerrville Police and Kerrville Fire EMS personnel arrived at the scene. The driver of the Chevrolet pickup, a 64-year-old Kerrville resident, was subsequently transported to Peterson Regional Medical Center by ground ambulance and later airlifted to San Antonio Military Medical Center for further medical attention. Meanwhile, the driver of the stolen vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene by a Justice of the Peace. As of now, the identity of the deceased driver remains undisclosed, and no additional information regarding the condition of the Chevrolet pickup driver is available.
