A woman has been arrested and charged with murder in connection with the fatal stabbing of another woman during an argument at a North Side apartment complex, according to booking records.
Whitney Caraway, 34, is now in custody following the tragic incident that claimed the life of 35-year-old Amanda Newton on May 22. Bexar County Jail records confirm the murder charge against Caraway.
The confrontation took place at approximately 1:30 a.m. at the Hamilton Place Apartments in the 1650 block of Jackson Keller Road, in close proximity to West Avenue and Loop 410.
Upon arriving at the scene, San Antonio police officers discovered Amanda Newton lying in the apartment complex's parking lot, suffering from multiple stab wounds. Tragically, Newton was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to an arrest warrant affidavit, a witness reported observing a verbal altercation between the victim and the suspect in the street. The dispute escalated into a brief physical confrontation before Whitney Caraway abruptly left the scene in a vehicle, as stated in the affidavit. The witness, upon noticing Newton's severe injuries and profuse bleeding, immediately dialed 911 for assistance.
Video evidence also supports the altercation between Caraway and Newton, as described in the affidavit. However, the document does not specify the exact cause of the argument.
Whitney Caraway was taken into custody on Monday, and in addition to the murder charge, she faces allegations of driving without a valid license and insurance, both classified as Class B misdemeanors, according to records. Her bond has been set at $201,500.
