Governor Greg Abbott Honors Fentanyl Awareness Efforts at San Antonio Walk

Governor Greg Abbott extended his heartfelt appreciation to Texas families, community members, and loved ones for their dedication in raising awareness about the growing fentanyl crisis affecting Texas and the nation. The acknowledgment came during the Soles 4 Souls Fentanyl Awareness Walk in San Antonio, which brought together advocates and officials to address the pressing issue.

In a solemn gathering of over 200 fentanyl advocates, families, and local officials, Governor Abbott shared his commitment to combating the fentanyl crisis and remembered those who have tragically succumbed to the drug's dangers. A poignant moment during the event was when the Governor highlighted a picture of Danica Kaprosy, emphasizing the importance of the ongoing battle against this deadly drug.

"While we cannot bring back the lives we've lost, we can work together to prevent further tragedies in Texas families," Governor Abbott asserted. "Thank you all for being here tonight to honor those we have lost and to raise awareness so we can protect more Texans from the perils of this lethal drug. It is the efforts of brave parents and loved ones, like those here today, that are making Texans aware of this terrible crisis."

Governor Abbott urged Texans to educate themselves and their loved ones about the risks of fentanyl poisoning. Earlier this year, he signed a law designating October as Fentanyl Poisoning Awareness Month in Texas, underlining the state's commitment to addressing this critical issue.

The event featured prominent figures, including Representative John Lujan, Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar, San Antonio City Councilwoman Phyllis Viagran, Southwest Baptist Church Pastor Michael Lujan, KSAT-TV News Anchor Courtney Friedman, and other state and local officials who joined the Governor in commending the collective efforts to combat the fentanyl crisis.
