Timon Michael Matthews, a 20-year-old resident of Bexar County, was apprehended on September 6, 2023, on charges of grooming a child for multiple years. Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar announced that Matthews is now facing a first-degree felony charge of continuous sexual abuse of a child.
The arrest came after an extensive investigation by Bexar County Sheriff's Deputies, triggered by a report from concerned parents in west Bexar County. The parents reported that their 15-year-old daughter had been sexually abused for several years, with the abuse allegedly starting when she was around 7 or 8 years old.
Sheriff Salazar revealed that Matthews and the victim had a distant, non-blood relationship, which he purportedly exploited to commit these heinous acts. The sheriff characterized Matthews as having "capitalized" on this relationship to groom and subsequently abuse the child over an extended period.
Authorities disclosed that Child Protective Services (CPS) had been notified about the situation in 2021. However, at that time, the family did not cooperate with the investigation. It was only recently, as the victim entered her teenage years, that she began to cooperate with law enforcement.
