On Monday, August 28, 2023, the New Braunfels Police Department arrested a 19-year-old resident on charges related to a hoax bomb incident.
According to NBPD spokesperson David Ferguson, officers were dispatched to the intersection of East Faust Street and Sanger Avenue in response to a report of a suspicious individual or vehicle. The caller informed law enforcement that a male had displayed what appeared to be a rifle and a hand grenade, inquiring about a suitable location for target practice. The nature of the display led the caller to believe that the weapons were genuine.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers located the vehicle beneath I-35 at the Guadalupe River Turnaround and Boat Ramp. Subsequently, they engaged with two individuals inside the vehicle.
Ferguson explained, "The individual who had previously displayed the weapons clarified that the gun in question was an air rifle (pellet gun), and the two grenades were realistic-looking replicas. However, because of his earlier assertion that the grenades were real, which caused alarm and prompted a law enforcement response, he was taken into custody and charged with Hoax Bomb."
The suspect, identified as Terry Andras Schultz, 19 years old and a resident of New Braunfels, was booked into the Comal County Jail following his arrest.
